Carlsbad Side Yard Landscape Makeover

We've been working pretty hard on our Side Yard.

Our goal is to make it a little outdoor retreat, and living in San Diego we plan on using it all year long.

Things we love about our side yard: its totally private, has a brand new deck (installed a week after we moved in), and it's a size we can enjoy without feeling overwhelmed with constant work.

It has come a pretty looong way - it was a definitively ugly and unarguably dangerous when we moved in.

The new deck was the first step to giving the side yard some new life.

But as you'll see the landscaping was still a huge eye sore.

So Eric and I went to work... we ripped out dead plants, collected all the random rocks, and became 'yard guys' for the next 2 weekends. I especially love working outdoors and if I didn't have Superhero to help me this would have taken me way way longer... but i'll post about that a little later.

Eric was dying to have real grass and because it seemed like the cheapest way to add the green effect we were lacking, we decided to put sod in - which Superhero tore with his bare hands to fit the space.
